What does 1.1.3 do or add to your iPhone?

iPhone update 1.1.3

Let’s get right to the point straight from the Macwold expo.

New iPhone features 1.1.3

The new iPhone Firmware version 1.1.3 adds the following features:

A new Map Application – You can now Find your current location just like a GPS device. It uses local Wi-Fi and cell service to pinpoint your location within a very small margin of error. I LOVE THIS FEATURE!!!!  Take a stab back on the Verizon LG Voyager why don’t ya!

Google Maps Locator

Send SMS text messages to multiple recipients at once. – You can send several of your friends the same SMS (text) message without re-typing the (send to) recipient.

Multi SMS

Customize the Home Screen – You can now rearrange the icons on the front home screen of the iPhone. It will allow you to add Safari bookmarks to the Home Screen with the designated icon for your recognition. You can create up to 9 home screen pages. – WOW, that’s a lot!

Custom home screen

IMAP support for Gmail – Several of you have already tried it and it may or may not work with firmware version 1.1.2 but it is now fully supported with 1.1.3. View all of your Gmail email folders with added functions that make the Gmail connection seamless via your iPhone. Learn how to configure your iPhone email to work with Gmail via IMAP here!

Lyrics support on the iPod portion of your iPhone. Yes, songs that are downloaded from iTunes that support the display of lyrics, you can now sing along with the printed text lyrics on your iPhone’s iPod.

A video of some of this 1.1.3 in action on the iPhone:

That about wraps it up… Did anyone notice any issues with logging onto the iPhone server via iTunes to download the update?  It happend 3 times but I came back and tried it again and it worked.

  iPhone server unavailable

Also, keep in mind the firmware software download is approximately 162.1 megabytes (MB)… so if you have a slow connection you might want to download it when you’re not using your computer and plug up your iPhone later on for the update to install.

1.1.3 update is a large download
