iPhone vs. BlackBerry Bold 9000
So which phone is king of the hill? I have not had a chance to get my hands on a new BlackBerry Bold 9000 but I have seen one in action when I was in Irving, TX. An employee from Research In Motion of Irving, TX was at a local starbucks and had what looked a like a demo model of the new BlackBerry Bold 9000. It was interesting for him to have this device in a briefcase with stickers on it. I don’t know if it was a test model of the BlackBerry Bold 9000 or if it was his personal device. He never did use the phone only pulled it out once and placed it back in the briefcase. How interesting for me to witness this, too bad I could not get a clear angle with my iPhone camera. I am pretty sure it was a BlackBerry Bold and not the BlackBerry Curve. Now onto the battle of the iPhone versus the BlackBerry Bold 9000. The new BlackBerry Bold 9000 is undoubtedly sleek and sexy. It does remind you of an iPhone especially when you see that it has a chrome outline border just like the iPhone surrounding a glossy black face. Even though the BlackBerry Bold 9000 has a physical QWERTY keyboard on the face, it blends in nicely without obstructing the sex appeal of the glossy black front. From the many images that you can find online you see that baby got back also. The BlackBerry Bold 9000 sports a sleek black backing sporting the 2 megapixel 5x digital zoom camera with video recording and flash. Integrated cameras are something relatively new for BlackBerrys but found as a benefit for corporate users as well as ever-day non-techie consumers.
Other notable features that puts the BlackBerry Bold 9000 out in front of the current iPhone is the 3.5G HSDPA connectivity, yea, that’s 3 POINT 5 G baby, the new centered trackball, 480x320 resolution screen, Bluetooth, WiFi, physical QWERTY keyboard, GPS navigation, and desktop-style web browser. While the iPhone may have a few of these features some of them are very worthy of putting the iPhone to shame such as the 3.5G connection on the BlackBerry Bold. If this is too good to be true then maybe it WILL BE once the new 3G iPhone comes out.
The iPhone holds its own as being one of the most revolutionary devices to hit the streets in our day and age. What other device has this type of touch screen interface with the easy usability of all of it’s short list of functions. It’s little sister, the iPod touch, is the only one that comes to mind but it is not a cell phone. With the anticipation of Steve Jobs walking onto the stage in his tight jeans and pulling out of the new 3G iPhone out of his pocket many think this new 3G iPhone will blow everything else out of the water including the BlackBerry Bold 9000. Well, the 3G iPhone is not out yet so we can only compare what we can physically see just like the BlackBerry’s keyboard. The iPhone does fall short when you list all of the core features of the BlackBerry Bold 9000 vs. the iPhone’s list.
In conclusion we think the BlackBerry Bold 9000 is a “BOLD” stand against the most talked-about cell phone on the planet. Yes, we said it, the iPhone is the most talked-about cell phone around. Maybe that is another point that the iPhone scored against the BlackBerry Bold.
The BlackBerry Bold 9000 is like a like the high-school football star who does not make it to the pros. The iPhone is a very sexy woman that just about everyone wants to get their hands on.
The new BlackBerry Bold 9000 is expected to be released exclusively on the ATT network within the next few months. No release date has been confirmed as of yet.
