Free custom ringtones for iPhone now – You can now create your own ringtones for your iPhone for FREE again!!!
The new iPhone 1.1.2 firmware was available for download yesterday for all iPhone users in the US. This update was much anticipated and waited out by all users of iPhones, hackers and common users alike. Hackers of the iPhone waited it out due to the fact that version 1.1.2 may or may not disable the 3rd party apps installed on the iPhone or maybe by some luck it will open up a new avenue to the iPhone’s software… probably not. So with the new update people are really wondering what it does and what can 1.1.2 offer to them that 1.1.1 firmware version did not. First lets start off with the biggest change for version 1.1.2 firmware for the iPhone, that will be WHAT IS A RINGTONE for $.99 ALEX! You are correct! You win the free ringtone prize! You can now manipulate iTunes to sync your very own customized ringtones. Customization of ringtones to sync with the iPhone is very simple. You can save your buck for a rainy day and to by A DIFFERENT song file from iTunes in the near future instead of re-purchasing A RINGTONE from iTunes now with the version 1.1.2 firmware. Instructions for creating your own customized ringtone for your iPhone…
(Windows XP based) - Choose your music or sound (mp3)
- Use audacity to cut the song to 40 seconds or less
- Drag the song to itunes
- Right click on the song in itunes and convert to AAC
- Find the .mpa song in folder My DocumentsMy MusiciTunesiTunes Music
- Make sure you have a folder My DocumentsMy MusiciTunesiTunes MusicRingtones (if not create the folder)
- Rename the .mpa song to .mpr (you may want to change your computer settings to show hidden extensions)
- Double click on the renamed song.
- The new ringtone should now appear in the ringtones list in itunes. Select it for syncing
- Sync the iphone.
- Go to SettingsSoundRingtone on the iPhone. There is a new grouping called Custom. Your new ringtone should be there.
(MAC OX X 10.5 based) - Select the song in iTunes that I want to use as a ringtone. Protected AAC files will not work.
- Right-click on the song and select Get Info
- Go to the Options page and select the start and end times for the ringtone
- Right-click on the song again and select Convert Selection to AAC
- Right-click on the converted song and select Show in Finder
- Drag the .m4a file from the Finder window to your desktop
- Go back to iTunes and delete the converted song from iTunes. When I skipped this step, double clicking on the .m4r file to import the ringtone into iTunes did not work properly.
- Right-click on the song file on your desktop, select Get Info and change the file extension from .m4a to m4r. You should get a warning message about changing the extension.
- Open a Finder window and locate the Ringtones folder underneath your iTunes folder. The path should be /Users//Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Ringtones. If this folder does not exist, create it.
- Drag the renamed song file from your desktop to the Ringtones folder in Finder.
- Double-click on the .m4r file now stored inside the Ringtones folder. iTunes should change to the Ringtones folder under Library near the top and start playing the ringtone
- Plug-in your iPhone to begin the sync process. This should copy the ringtone over to your iPhone. You can verify this after the sync is complete by expanding the iPhone contents inside iTunes and then, selecting the Ringtones folder.

Now that you have read the biggest and most popular enhancement/change for the newest iPhone 1.1.2 firmware version you can now read about the other changes present that version 1.1.2 iPhone firmware has to offer. - Can now do custom ringtones – you do not have to purchase ringtones on iTunes to use a ringtone on an un-hacked iPhone

- TIFF Exploit patched (explained here) - JailBreakMe no longer works
